Fighting to Protect Military Children from Child Abuse

Hundreds of military children are sexually abused every year. This matter hasn’t been addressed and dealt adequately to prevent it from happening in the first place. The U.S. military frequently fails to protect or provide justice to the children of service members when outsiders and family members sexually assault them.

Tulsi Gabbard: “Stated that over the past decade, there had been over 29,000 cases of child abuse and neglect in military homes.”

Tulsi introduced Talia’s Law, named for Talia Williams, a five-year-old who was beaten to death by her father, a Soldier who was stationed in Hawaii at the time.

This incident was shockingly disturbing, but it also exposed the negligence and callousness of the military department. They failed to take timely remedial action when they were cognizant of instances of repeated abuses taking place in the initial phase of domestic violence.

Talia’s Law aims to prevent child abuse and neglect on military bases by mandating training and requiring members of the Armed Forces and civilians working in military institutions to immediately report suspected cases of abuse to State Child Protective Services.

Tulsi Gabbard: “I’ve introduced Talia’s Law to disrupt the status quo and stop another decade of preventable child abuse.”

Eventually, Talia’s Law was signed into law under the FY17 National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) on December 23, 2016.

This victory means a lot for those unfortunate children and many others who’re suffering from such plights.

Indeed, Tulsi is a rainmaker. So, let’s vote her in this upcoming 2020 presidential election to see some real changes happening around us.
