Fossil fuels power our lives and have for over a century. They are non-renewable sources of energy that take millions of years to develop and provide us with power to light and heat our homes, drive our vehicles, and build our modern lifestyles.

The United States gets 81% of its total energy from oil, coal, and natural gas, all of which are fossil fuels. We depend on those fuels to heat our homes, run our vehicles, power industry and manufacturing, and provide us with electricity.

Building a clean Environment

Hawaii continues to lead the nation in renewable energy production. We must continue to utilize our abundant renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, including other forms of non-hazardous sources to gradually shift towards the green economy by shunning our dependency on fossil fuels.

Hawaii ’s abundant and diverse natural energy sources make this state an ideal location for innovation and growth in the renewable energy sector.
