Fossil fuels power our lives and have for over a century. They are non-renewable sources of energy that take millions of years to develop and provide us with power to light and heat our homes, drive our vehicles, and build our modern lifestyles.
The United States gets 81% of its total energy from oil, coal, and natural gas, all of which are fossil fuels. We depend on those fuels to heat our homes, run our vehicles, power industry and manufacturing, and provide us with electricity.
